TCODS - Tillamook County Outdoor School
So, you're coming to camp! Page 1
Outdoor School is held at Camp Meriwether, a beautiful Boy Scout camp located next to the beach just south of Cape Lookout. It's a two-mile bumpy ride into camp off of the highway.

Please be patient as your bus pulls into the upper camp parking area. You'll notice that there are no buildings here. When scouts use the camp, they sometimes unload from their vehicles here and walk into camp. Don't worry, you get to ride down into the main part of camp on your bus, but it's important that we have all of the buses drive down into the main part of camp at the same time so that when we unload the buses we won't have anyone else driving into the area.

The buses loaded with anxious 6th graders park in preparation for unloading.
Students get off buses and head to the opening assembly.

The first buildings you'll see on your left as you drive down into camp are two staff houses where a few of the staff stay.

The restrooms in this "downtown camp" area are located in the basement of the lodge which is on the hill to the north, the right, of the lower parking lot.

All of the buses will drive up the hill on the paved road to Discovery Lodge. Since the parking lot area isn't very large, it takes a while to get all of the buses turned around and in a position to unload students. No students are allowed off of buses until all of the buses are completely stopped. Patiently wait until a camp staff person comes to your bus greeting your class and asking you to get off of your bus. Remember to leave your luggage and sleeping bag on the bus! Students walk to the opening assembly.
Counselors sing and dance as the students walk by them to the opening assembly.

As you unload from your bus, you will walk through the parking lot, past Discovery Lodge, by the counselors, and up a trail to the campfire bowl for a "Welcome to Camp" meeting with the camp director, Moses. You might notice the wooden fences in camp as you walk by them. Please don't ever sit on any of the fences in camp during the week as they tend to come apart easily.

You will also notice that the counselors, high school students and college-age staff, seem excited to finally see you, the campers! The counselors arrive at camp on Saturday for training, and by Monday morning they're always excited as they wait for "their" kids to show up.
