"Sixth grade gone
You led him
To the last
Of a little boy's world

With care
On a road of hope
Opening doors
To a world of infinite

Small steps
Into independence you gave
Allowing him soon to run
Life's race of all he can become

Tomorrow with many steps taken
The man will yearn
For the little boy
And will remember you

Sixth grade gone
You led him
To the last of a little boy's world
            John Wood, June, 1995
