I've been asked for many years to provide a list of songs I use during counselor training and during the staff meetings.
Why do I use these songs? The songs have messages that promote teamwork, caring, belief in oneself and others, positive values as I see them, or just nice feeling words. Playing them while we all sit quietly listening promotes contemplation, takes us where we are and promotes a moving further in caring friendships, and somewhat forces us to think about what makes quality relationships work.
Do all of the words in a song apply to the camp situation? No way! I always ask whomever is listening to the songs to take the overall message, not to pull out individual words that really don't fit well with the general idea of the song. So don't listen to a song's words trying to figure out if I'm secretly promoting something. I use the songs because of the clear overall messages and feelings they promote.
Where do I get the songs? I use what I hear that I think will fit in well to camp. I have a number of people who have recommended songs to me as well. If you have a song with a great message, email me and tell me what the song is and who performs it!
The songs in red are songs that I don't think were used this past fall (I listened to a number of these before and during camp, so there are some that I don't remember if they were played or not!).
